Getting to the Games

Eden Park is located in amongst a residential area, with limited parking available. The All Blacks game is considered a large event, which will see the Eden Park Events Road Closures taking place. The immediate roads surrounding the stadium are generally closed to the general public, with no street parking available from 4pm on the night of the event. Therefore, the best way to get to the game is via public transport.

From Auckland Airport

There are a few options to get to Eden Park from Auckland Airport:

Bus and Train (Public Transport Combo)

Approximately 1hr and 40mins one way ($4.45nzd using an AT Hop Card)

Free travel is included in your match-day ticket to the All Blacks Game, but if you are wanting to head in a little earlier than you will need to purchase a Public Transport Card (AT HOP Card) – This is a public transport card with pre-loaded money on it, to get on to buses and trains. One can be purchased from several places (checkout here for an interactive map) – there are also 3 places around the Airport you can purchase an AT Hop Card:

  • International AirportTake Home, Shop 9, Ground Floor, Auckland International Airport
  • Domestic AirportAir Go Convenience, Ground Floor, Auckland Domestic Airport
  • Domestic Airport – AT HOP Vending Marching, Outside Door 4, Auckland Domestic Airport

You cannot catch the Air Bus without an AT Hop Card before 3.00pm – they do not accept cash payments

Whether you are starting at the Auckland Domestic Airport, International Airport or a local Airport hotel (Pullman, Ibis, Novotel) you will be able to catch the orange AIR Bus to the Puhinui Interchange (train/bus station) from both terminals, and a short walk from the Ibis down on Tom Pearce road. Using your newly purchased AT Hop Card, tag on to your bus when you enter (if you aren’t sure, ask your friendly driver)

Air Bus, Auckland Transport

At the Puhinui Interchange, you will need to disebark the bus and tag off (tagging on and off is important, to ensure you are only charged for the route you took – you will be charged a penalty fare if you forget to tag off).

Head into the Puhinui station and make your way to Platform 1 – to get on to the platform, you will need to tag your AT HOP Card on at the gates.

Catch the Southern Train (via Newmarket) – lookout for the “Newmarket” station on the front of the train. It will also be announced on the platform.

Ride 9 stops, disembarking at Newmarket Station.

From Newmarket you need to catch a Western bound train from Platform 1 (you do not need to tag your AT Hop Card off, this is an interchange and included in your fare).

Ride the Western Bound train 3 stops to Kingsland station and disembark. Remember to tag off at the Kingsland Station. Head to the right, up and over the over bridge towards Sandringham Road. On Sandringham Road, turn right and head down towards the stadium.

You will be greeted with Gate A into Eden Park on the left-hand side of the road.

Taxi/Ride Share and Train (Mixed Transport Combo)

If you’re staying a little further from the airport terminals, but still in the general airport vicinity then you may want to consider a taxi/ride share combo. If you are catching a ride share (Uber etc.) from the airport terminals there is an extra fee (domestic – $4 and international – $5). Taxi’s have their own Airport Fees, which are available on the side of the taxi (along with metre and call rates etc.).

Depending on where you are based and how big your party is, you could taxi/ride share to the following stations:

  • Puhinui Station
  • Middlemore Station; or
  • Onehunga Station

Each of these stations will give you access to the Southern Line and Onehunga Line, which pass through the Newmarket station. Follow the same instructions above (catching Western Line to Kingsland) to head to Eden Park.

Taxi/Ride Share

If you’re not keen on public transport or you’re coming in pretty close to kick-off then taxi/ride-share may be a good option for you. With immediate roads surrounding Eden Park, the best place to get dropped off closest to the airport, is along Sandringham Road. It will be a quick 10minute walk to the stadium and there will clear signage to show you the route.

Taxi and Ride Share is a great option if you also have kids or are travelling with someone who may find it a bit difficult navigating on and off public transport. Keep in mind that closer to event and and immediately after, there is often a surge (large amount of requests for service) which could result in a high price/reduced service.

Price for Ride Share/Taxi: The average price is approx. $37nzd (rideshare), with a fare being as much as $54nzd at peak times.

From Auckland City (CBD)

If you’re heading to the game from Auckland City (CBD) then you have several great options:

  • Event Buses: Auckland Transport is putting on event busses from 120 Quay Street, directly to Eden Park Transport Hub (from 3.00pm to 6.30pm. Buses run every 10 minutes, but it pays to get there early to ensure you get a seat onboard). Your transport is free with your match day ticket.
  • Britomart: If you’re not up for a bus trip, but staying at the bottom of town then head on down to Britomart/Waitemata Station. The best train to catch is a Western Line train – stay on the train through Newmarket and jump off at Kingsland.
  • Bus Route from the Top of Town: If you’re not staying down near Britomart or Quay Street, then you may want to catch a bus from Grafton Bridge (close to the Cordis Hotel). Any bus from Bus Stop C on Grafton Bridge with the numbers 22 or 24 will take you along Eden Terrace and on into Kingsland (Eden Park). For the most accurate bus route/time plan your route through the Auckland Transport website here.

Game Day Tips

What to Bring

As Auckland has been quite cold lately and with the recent Super Rugby season at Eden Park being marked by heavy rain, it’s important to come prepared. Make sure to dress warm – Eden Park is enclosed but roofless and can get pretty cold at night. Bring a plastic/rain poncho – these handy ponchos are easy to put on, will keep you relatively dry, and still let you enjoy the game. For affordable yet reliable ponchos, check out stores like Briscoes, Kmart, or even your local Look Sharp store. Don’t forget to bring your tickets and ID, as these are essential for entry.

Stadium Entry Policies – Eden Park’s prohibited items include weapons, glass bottles, and large umbrellas. Bag checks are conducted at the entrance, so pack light and avoid bringing large bags. Small personal bags are allowed, but they will be inspected upon entry.

Arriving Early to Soak in the Pre-Game Atmosphere To make the most of your game day experience, plan to arrive early. This not only helps you avoid last-minute rushes but also allows you to soak in the vibrant pre-game atmosphere. Enjoy the excitement, engage with fellow fans, and take advantage of the food and beverage options available around the stadium.

Finding Your Seat and Navigating the Stadium Once inside, finding your seat and navigating the stadium is straightforward. Eden Park is well-signposted, and friendly staff are always on hand to assist with directions. Large screens and clear signage will help guide you to your section. Arriving early also gives you time to get settled and comfortable before the game begins.
